I have served on the Fairfax, CA. Town Council since December of 1999. In 2010 I will serve as Mayor, and I am exploring my interest in being the Green Party Nominee for Governor of California. I have served two pervious terms as Mayor, in 2002 and 2005.
I am currently the President of the Ross Valley Fire Authority, Vice Mayor of Fairfax, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Marin Clean Energy Authority.

We Lived to Tell the Story; Lebanon Rescued Us
Yesterday, we met with the President of Lebanon, the Chief of the Military, and the Interior Minister who all thanked us for responding and risking our lives on a mission of mercy; we profusely thanked them for rescuing us. What would we have done, stranded out at sea, prohibited from reaching our destination, low on fuel, with a badly damaged boat if Lebanon had not accepted us? Lebanon sent their ships to find us. Lebanon rescued us. Lebanon welcomed us. And we are truly thankful.

Israeli patrol boat collides with aid ship off Gaza
An Israeli naval vessel collided on Tuesday with a boat carrying activists and medical supplies that was trying to break the blockade of Gaza, forcing it to divert to a port in Lebanon.
Passengers on board the 20-metre (66-foot) Dignity said the Israeli patrol boat rammed their vessel causing extensive damage, but Israel insisted the two boats collided as the Israeli navy was trying to contact its captain.

Green Party of Suffolk opposes FERC decision supporting Broadwater
The Green Party of Suffolk is opposed to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) decision to deny the requests of the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS) and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to be heard on the Broadwater Energy liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. The NYSDOS and NYSDEC wanted to speak in opposition to the March 20, 2008 FERC order authorizing the Broadwater terminal to be built in the Long Island Sound.

First Selectman's Goal: A More User-Friendly Windham
When Jean de Smet was elected last year as Windham's first selectman, she said she wanted to shake up the office by turning "town hall into a public service." De Smet's goal almost was overshadowed by her triumph. She was the first Green Party candidate to be elected first selectman in the largely Democratic town. Third-party candidates rarely succeed in getting elected, but de Smet got the win by rallying voters around a specific issue. She beat Windham's three-term Democratic First Selectman Michael Paulhus by campaigning to make local government more open to the public and to give residents easier access to town hall.

Clean Elections On Trial: Day 2
A Yale University professor told a federal judge Wednesday that minor party candidates get "a fantastically good deal" under the state's new clean elections system.
The testimony, by political science professor Donald Green, was in stark contrast to the portrait painted a day earlier by the Green Party of Connecticut's lawyer, who spent seven hours describing the hurdles third parties face trying to get funds through the Citizens Election Program.

Maine Green party chairwoman to run for governor
An attorney who has championed numerous environmental and human rights causes in Maine has announced that she intends to run for governor in 2010. Lynne Williams, 58, is state chairman of the Maine Green Independent Party and serves on the planning board in Bar Harbor. She has lived in Maine for 10 years, first in Augusta and then in Rockland before moving to Bar Harbor four years ago. In 2004, she ran unsuccessfully for the Maine House of Representatives as a Green party candidate in Rockland.

Malik Rahim: Another Candidate in Louisiana's 2nd District
However, there is a strong Green Party candidate in Malik Rahim. Malik founded the Common Ground Collective and brought 13,000 volunteers to the area after Hurricane Katrina. Malik and his volunteers provided free health care, housing, and other assistance to those in need. His efforts were covered on 60 minutes, ABC News, Democracy Now!, the Times-Picayune, and several others. Now he's running a strong campaign for Congress. Local volunteers and Greens across the nation are hitting the streets and making calls to get him elected. He's raised tens of thousands of dollars in small donations from individuals. However, his local paper severly underreported his donations, since they only counted large donations. Although Obama took his share of large and corporate donations, can you imagine if they didn't report the millions of small donations he received? Why is it acceptable to massage the numbers for a Green?

In Final Days of Congressional Campaign, Green Party Candidate Fights Local Media Blackout in New Orleans
In the years following the collapse of the federal levees after Hurricane Katrina, activist Malik Rahim was busy organizing one of the most influential recovery organizations in the Gulf South. The organization he founded and currently leads, Common Ground Collective, was gutting houses and providing medical and legal services to tens of thousands of New Orleans residents.
"I'm from New Orleans, and I stayed here after the flood to serve my community, at a time when neglect from the federal government was as chilling as it was apparent," said Rahim.
Even the local paper in New Orleans the Times-Picayune featured him in an article after the storm, stating that his work was "so far-reaching that it has brought over 10,000 volunteers to New Orleans since the city was devastated by Hurricane Katrina."
But the media coverage ended once he decided to run for office this fall.

North Carolina Minor Party Election Lawsuit Now Docketed in State Court of Appeals
The lawsuit Libertarian Party of North Carolina v State Board of Elections is now docketed in the State Court of Appeals in Raleigh. It is case number 08-1413. The Green Party is a co-plaintiff. The case was filed in 2003 and challenges all the North Carolina election laws that make life difficult for minor parties in that state. The main thrust of the lawsuit attacks the ballot access laws, but many other issues exist as well, including the ability of voters to register as members of parties that are not currently qualified. Although the Libertarian Party is now back on the ballot through the 2012 election, the Green Party is not, so the case is not moot in any sense.

Iowa's alternative parties analyze election outcome
Only two percent of Iowa voters supported third party presidential candidates this year, but Iowa’s third party activists are more analytical than disappointed when they examine their levels of support.
"My suspicion is that there is a kind of 'automatic' knee-jerk third party vote which is almost always guaranteed," said Holly Hart of the Iowa Green Party. "None of the third party candidates since Nader’s 2000 run have broken past that."

Former Georgia congresswoman and recent Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney was scheduled to give the following address in Damascus, Syria at a Conference to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She notes that this year also marks "the 60th year that the Palestinian people have been denied their Right of Return, enshrined in that Universal Declaration." However, Delta Airlines personnel prevented Ms. McKinney from boarding her flight. She describes the incident as "a dispute over my paperwork."

Peter Camejo's clarion call
More than 400 people gathered at the University of California-Berkeley on November 23 to honor the life of Peter Miguel Camejo, a veteran of half a century of struggle, who passed away September 13.
The memorial service represented the many parts of Peter's life in the movement, from his leading role in the struggles of the 1960s to his years as a member of the Socialist Workers Party to his activities and campaigns in the Green Party, among many others.

Boston Progressives Should Not Jump to Conclusions About Councilor Chuck Turner
If there's one politician that Boston community and labor activists can count on to "afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted" it's Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner (G/R - District 7). One of the vanishingly few African-American politicians in this "majority minority" city, he has energetically represented the interests of his largely low-income constituency of color. But he has also been a rare progressive voice in a sea of conservative politicians - most of whom are Democrats, but that's Massachusetts for you - and a bridge-builder to other communities and constituencies around the region. Not coincidentally, he is the only Green-Rainbow Party elected official in Boston. Yet today the city awoke to the startling news that Turner was arrested by the FBI at 7 a.m. this morning at City Hall, and charged with accepting $1000 in bribes from the same government informant who gave over $23,000 in bribes to former state Senator Dianne Wilkerson in exchange for assistance getting a liquor license for the Dejavu nightclub on Melnea Cass Blvd. in Roxbury.

I read the other day that Toni Morrison will be voting for Obama. A couple of weeks ago it was Alice Walker writing what I described as "driveling bullshit." and one more example of the mainstreaming of the progressives - Rosa Clemente has a more definitive list here. Obama talks about bringing "fundamental change" but the only fundamental change is his colour and when one looks more closely even his colour is not that fundamental after all. Obama is intrinsically tied to the mainstream, pro-Zionist war mongering American superstructure. Though disappointing it is not so surprising that so many millions all over the world have been drawn in by Obama who panders to black and white notions of a "post racial" America and world. An imaginary world of convenience particularly for the millions of white people who will vote him into the White House.

Though the effort to "get out the vote" for Obama has been non-stop on Macalester's campus as of late, come election day some students will be voting for a third party candidate or not voting at all. "It will sort of depend on how I feel [on election day]," Brendan Rogers '10 said. Third party hopeful bucks party lines at Naperville stop
Cynthia McKinney's journey toward becoming a member of the Green Party started years ago when she was in the Georgia state Legislature.
A lifelong Democrat, she remembers the outbreak of the 1991 Gulf War.
"I saw the Gulf War on television, and it looked beautiful, if you didn't know they were bombs (falling)," McKinney said Wednesday in Naperville.

The saying "go big or go home" certainly applies to political newcomer Paloma Andrade, Green Party candidate for Cook County Circuit Court Clerk. Peter Boyce, of the Constitution Party, and Jason Grover, of the Green Party, are both trying to do something few have done in the last century: win election to Congress as a third-party candidate.
